FDA Clearance for the Next-Generation OmniPod System

 

The next-generation OmniPod System, comprised of a smaller Pod and an updated PDM, has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This means Insulet is now selling the next-generation OmniPod in the U.S. The next-generation OmniPod insulin pump is approximately 34% smaller and 25% lighter than the original model, while maintaining the same 200-unit insulin reservoir capacity, 3-day wear and other easy-to-use features.

 

Transitioning existing OmniPod wearers to the next-generation OmniPod

 

We are pleased that we are now converting our existing OmniPod wearers to the next-generation OmniPod.

 

The following FAQs will help answer many of your questions. We designed this website to help you learn about all of the new features and benefits of the next-generation System.

 

How do I get the next-generation OmniPod as quickly as possible?

 

We know current OmniPod wearers are eager to get a hold of the next-generation OmniPod as soon as possible. The best thing you can do is to rely on your regular reorder cycle, which will help our Reorder and Product Support Teams be focused on helping everyone get through the transition period. Unfortunately, we are not able to support everyone all at the same time. Our Reorder and Product Support Teams are excited to service all OmniPod wearers throughout their transition; however, they will not be able to accelerate reorders.

 

We expect to have everyone converted in the next few months.

 

Is there anything I need to do in order to receive the next-generation OmniPod?

 

While waiting to receive the next-generation OmniPod, we strongly encourage that you visit www.myomnipodtraining.com. In particular, you should explore the Resource Center and the items labeled "Converting Only." These resources have been designed to help you throughout your transition to the next-generation OmniPod and to learn as much about the System as possible before receiving it.

 

You can also view a training video online, which will give you a full tour of what you will receive in your conversion kit, as well as important instructions on how to use the next-generation System. You will also receive a DVD of the training video in your conversion kit, so you can follow along at home as you're transitioning.

 

It's important to remember that the next-generation OmniPod is a completely new System, comprised of both a new PDM and a new Pod, and it may introduce changes to your routine. Following along with the educational materials will ensure the smoothest transition and set you up for the best possible experience with the OmniPod System overall.

 

As a courtesy to our existing OmniPod wearers, we are offering a one-time conversion to the next-generation OmniPod System at no additional cost to you, provided you're still within your 4-year limited PDM warranty at the time of conversion.

 

If your OmniPod warranty has expired there is no reason to worry. We will reach out to you to start the process of renewal. If you wish to renew your warranty now and avoid possible delays later, you may also contact our Reimbursement Team at 800-591-3455 (Option 2).

 

How do I know if I'm on track to receive the new System?

 

If you have been using the OmniPod System with no interruption to your regular reorder cycle, you are automatically on track to receive the new OmniPod System at the time you would expect your next reorder shipment. The best thing you can do is to stick with your regular reorder cycle.

 

We are sending out e-mail notifications to confirm when your conversion shipment has been sent. These notifications also contain information on how to access the online training materials for your review before receiving your next-generation OmniPod.

 

Will I receive a new PDM?

 

Yes, and as a courtesy to our existing OmniPod wearers, we are offering a one-time conversion to the next-generation OmniPod System at no additional cost to you; provided you’re still within your 4-year limited PDM warranty at the time of conversion.

I get my OmniPod through a distributor rather than Insulet directly; does that impact my conversion to the next-generation OmniPod?

 

We are working with all of our authorized distributors to make sure you get the next-generation OmniPod over the same expected three to six month period. We’ll reach out to you by e-mail to let you know when you’re scheduled to receive the next-generation OmniPod. We will send you the new PDM directly and our authorized distributor will send you the new Pods.

 

Is it mandatory to switch to the next-generation OmniPod?

 

Yes. Insulet has discontinued production of the original OmniPod System. At this time we are working with all remaining users of the original OmniPod to make the transition to the next-generation OmniPod.
