Business Intelligence Lead / DBA

 

Position overview:

The BI Lead / DBA is a member of the Business Systems Team and reports to the Sr. Manager, Business Systems. Working in a dynamic, collaborative team environment, you will serve as the technical lead as well as provide hands-on design, development, and implementation support for the BI project team.

 

JOB / DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES (Listed in order of importance)

  • Responsible for the architecture of the BI environment, its design, performance, availability, and success, including ETL, data warehouse/data marts, and end user applications for reporting and analytics.  Participate in reviews of all project efforts and ensure completeness of the architectural approach and documentation.
  • Work with the team on DBA related work such as cube creation and maintenance, ongoing optimization of the existing data structures and creating user friendly reporting systems
  • Ensure that business requirements can be satisfied by the most efficient and effective architectural solutions.
  • Responsible for the definition of both a short-term BI roadmap and long-term BI strategy
  • Responsible for logical and physical modeling for the data warehouse/data marts.
  • Responsible for rolling out analytic solutions, including OLAP tools, and performance management dashboards and scorecards
  • Partner with the project manager to define deliverables, work breakdown, level of effort estimates and delivery timeframes for all BI projects.
  • Analyze existing database performance and making recommendation for improvements.
  • Test and evaluate new database features and technology, as well as development work to support data reporting, manipulation and extraction.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge / Education

  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in the development, administration and the support of production databases; at least 2+ years in a lead position.
  • Fluency in SQL, stored procedures, and scripting languages
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience

Job Experience

  • Previous experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools - Essbase, Cognos, Hyperion, etc.
  • Must have significant experience with multiple RDBMS such as Oracle and MS SQL Server
  • Hands-on experience with ERD modeling tools
  • Experience working with, and supporting software development teams
  • Experience with XML data types and web services is desired

  • Strong knowledge of relational models, normal form, ETL, and data warehouses
  • Excellent writing skills, with ability to express strategy, technical knowledge, processes in easily understood presentation

  • Ability to rapidly learn and take advantage of new concepts, business models, and technologies
  • Ability to work independently & on multiple projects against deadlines
  • Experience in the healthcare or medical device industry a plus
