In a series of 12 episodes, Podder Talk is featuring interviews between professional snowboarder Sean Busby and inspirational people in the diabetes community. In the sixth episode, Sean interviews Chloe van Dyck, a 16-year-old accomplished Irish dancer.
Chloe van Dyck was born in 1997 in the United Kingdom. When she was just three months old, she moved with her family to Sydney, Australia and they later relocated to Dublin, Ireland in 2004. Chloe picked up the sport of Irish dancing that year and quickly excelled. It was in March 2005 that she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
Despite this new way of life, Chloe refused to give up her new love for dancing. She and her family moved back to Sydney in 2007 where she continues to break new barriers (despite having diabetes) and push the sport of Irish dancing.
Chloe has had many top placements in teams at both the state and National Championships in Australia. She qualified for, and danced at, the 2012 World Championships in Belfast, Ireland. She also competed at the 2013 North American Nationals in Anaheim, California, and most recently took 3rd place at N.S.W State Championships, Australia. Chloe is an inspiration to us all!
