In a series of 12 episodes, Podder Talk is featuring interviews between professional snowboarder Sean Busby and inspirational people in the diabetes community. In the tenth episode, Sean interviews Charlie Rabe, coach of the Boston University Snowboard Team and a 17-year veteran of type 1 diabetes.
Charlie Rabe was born, raised and still resides in Massachusetts. He just passed the 17-year-mark living with type 1 diabetes and still considers himself to be constantly learning and striving to improve his understanding, treatment and control of the disease. Charlie recently switched from multiple daily injections to pump therapy, using the Omnipod, and loves the freedom it has allowed him.
Charlie has been snowboarding for 18 years and still strives to learn something new every time he steps onto his board. Charlie recently obtained his AASI (American Association Snowboard Instructors) Level 2 certification, as well as USASA (United States America Snowboard Association) Level 100 coaching certification. Charlie is also the coach of the Boston University Snowboard Team, leading some of his athletes to top 10 finishes at the USASA Snowboard Nationals in Copper Mountain, CO.
In addition to coaching, Charlie is also an instructor and staff trainer at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, MA and is an Elite Coach and staff trainer for Riding On Insulin. Snowboarding is Charlie's passion and he loves teaching, coaching and sharing it with anyone and everyone. When he is not on his snowboard you can find Charlie enjoying life and planning for an upcoming wedding with his fiancée Megan.
